Today, March 9, 2017, it is world Kidney Day! Check out the links of the different events and the kidney in the news: http://www.fondation-du-rein.org/journee-mondiale-du-rein.html http://www.worldkidneyday.org/ http://www.leprogres.fr/rhone/2017/02/26/journee-mondiale-du-rein-attention-aux-diagnostics-tardifs http://www.lefigaro.fr/culture/2017/03/05/03004-20170305ARTFIG00006-richard-berry-et-anne-roumanoff-animeront-le-gala-de-la-fondation-du-rein.php

Six members of the RF-Lab went skiing on March 6, 2017 with a number of other members of the institute (Thanks I2MC for organizing this, especially the boss and JJ!). What was announced as a rainy and windy day turned out to be a surprisingly sunny (but still windy) day. Some tasted for the first time of the pleasures of wintersports. New!! video !! Valerie Brunchault, one of our PhD students, has presented her work during short, 5 min, presentations at the University of Toulouse on January 17, 2017. She also did an excellent job in replying to all questions. Here her introductory slide (in French) on biomarkers for kidney disease.

Thursday 15, 2016 was the day of our traditional Christmas lunch. This time we went to the “3-Brasseurs”. Please meet the entire table:   It was also the almost last week of Dimitri in the lab. Here is Dimitri clearly being sad, but happy with his farewell gift(s):   Finally, presents were exchanged with the youngest RF-lab member (Franck) under the table to decide who gets which present:   Merry Christmas!

November 28th, 2016 was the day that Theo defended his thesis. Overall everybody agreed that the presentation was very good and that the defense went well! The jury members found the scientific discussion particularly interesting! Congrats to Theo and we wish him all  the best for the future.

The RF-lab participated at the Renalweek 2016 meeting in Chicago       We presented a Poster (by Valerie and Franck) entitled “A capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry pipeline for long term comparable assessment of the urinary metabolome”. It shows the very robust and reproducible analysis of the urinary metabolome that we have developped in the lab. Joost presented our work on the humanized urinary type 2 diabetic nephropathy classsifier. Last but not least, we also met Romain Dissard one of our former PhD students: now in Geneva. FAT pizza !!!

Another sign of importance of data coming out of the RF-lab. We made it to the cover of Kidney International with our work on the development of the non-invasive humanized type 2 diabetic nephropathy readout in mouse models.

A capillary electrophoresis coupled to mass spectrometry pipeline for long term comparable assessment of the urinary metabolome. Boizard F, Brunchault V, Moulos P, Breuil B, Klein J, Lounis N, Caubet C, Tellier S, Bascands JL, Decramer S, Schanstra JP, Buffin-Meyer B. Sci Rep. 2016 Oct 3;6:34453. doi: 10.1038/srep34453. PMID: 27694997   We have been working for many years to setup a robust urinary metabolome analysis pipeline in the laboratory which now has fully maturated. We have shown that we can now analyze the metabolite content of the same sample for over 4 (!) years with high reproducibilitymainly based on a unique internal normalization procedure. WeRead More →

Increased urinary lysophosphatidic acid in mouse with subtotal nephrectomy: potential involvement in chronic kidney disease. Mirzoyan K, Baïotto A, Dupuy A, Marsal D, Denis C, Vinel C, Sicard P, Bertrand-Michel J, Bascands JL, Schanstra JP, Klein J, Saulnier-Blache JS. J Physiol Biochem. 2016 Sep 17. PMID: 27637780   Check out the first paper of one of our PhD students Koryun Mirzoyan. He studied LPA in a chronic kidney disease mouse model (subtotal nephrectomy, SNX). It was concluded that SNx increases urinary LPA through a mechanism that could involve co-excretion of plasma LPA with albumin associated with a reduction of its catabolism in the kidney.
